The original business was based on high- end hair ser vices, with
award-winning hair stylist Stephen presiding over a hand-picked
team of experts whose philosophy is not to follow trends but to
customise the haircut for the individual. This, they believe, ensures
the haircut is never out of fashion.
Stephen himself has styled the hair of many high profile
personalities including Sam Worthington, Richard Roxburgh,
David Wenham, Kylie Minogue, Rachel Griffiths, Kim Cattrell,
Delta Goodrem and Eva Herzigova. He is also the leading hair
stylist for GQ Magazine Australia.
However, it soon became obvious to Andrew and Stephen that
their discerning clientele of time- stretched business professionals
were primed for a wider range of premium aesthetic ser vices,
conveniently under one roof.
“Our location provides us with the perfect opportunity to tailor
serv ices to meet busy customers’ schedules,” says Andrew.
“They can come in for, say, a quick wash and blow dry before
an important meeting, or a skin rejuvenation treatment in the
lunch hour. If there’s an important work-related social event in the
evening they can have a facial, their makeup and hair done to look
their best without having to go home first.
“But when they have the time to dedicate to getting results-
driven rejuvenating or corrective treatments, this is also their
go -to destination.
“ We pride ourselves on tailoring programs to each individual’s
skin and hair needs, so that with every treatment they are noticing
v isible improvements.
“To achieve optimum skin health they need to find a skin
therapist they can trust. There is a minefield of misinformation and
skin products that make misleading claims.
“Our professionally trained team of skin consultants understand
all skin types and all skin conditions.
“By giving expert advice, ever y client is educated on the products
they need and the method to use them. All treatments are custom-
designed to meet the needs of individual men and women.”
Detail For Men, “The Total Body Workshop”, also offers
signature treatments such as The Perfect Shave – a popular choice
for professional men who need to be immaculately groomed at all
times. Appearances, after all, count.
“To achieve the cleanest shave possible we recommend the Hot
Towel Shave,” says Andrew. “A straight blade is the most precise
as it is sharper and closer than any supermarket purchased blade.
However, it requires expert training to use a straight blade. So we
also educate our clients on the best possible razors they can use
safely at home and the techniques to get the best results.”
When refining their offering for each of the men’s and women’s
f loors, A ndrew and Stephen looked closely at their competition
before investing in expensive aesthetic dev ice technology.
“To be successful you need to have points of difference,” says
Andrew. “ We looked at surrounding businesses and found many
offering laser hair removal, for instance. They were all madly
discounting to attract customers away from the opposition. There
were also clinics solely dedicated to hair removal.
“ Where was the sense in our offering being more of the same?
We saw that laser tattoo removal was becoming a boom area and
so we invested our money in that technology instead. It has been
hugely successful with our clientele, both male and female.”
Andrew and Stephen are always looking for the next strategic
step to take. The minimalist spaces of both the men’s and women’s
floors, while chic, are also designed to accommodate further
growth when the right time dictates.
“In business it’s important to have one eye focused on the detail
of the now and the other on where it’s heading.”
