“A fter just five treatments over
five weeks, the cystic acne just about
disappeared. The deep scarring was
markedly refined and the pigment has
lightened up so much that we are conf ident
of it disappearing completely.

Another GF system making a big impact
is the autologous (har vested from the
body’s own substances) Factor4, a highly
concentrated, super-rich plasma which its
distributors, Klinic Solutions, say contains
four times more g rowth factors than any
brand Blood Rich Injection product.
Depending on the patient’s needs, it is
used to treat wrinkles and crepiness in areas
of the face, neck, décolletage, back of hands,
dark eye circles, stretch marks, scars - with
bonus effects of significant reducing in static
face lines and tightening of the skin.
“ We are seeing some wonderful results
in our patients,” says cosmetic physician
Dr Christopher Leat, of the Gold Coast’s
“Factor4 is generated by taking the
patient’s blood in technologically advanced
tubing,” he says. “ The drawn blood is then
incubated for between six and nine hours,
exposing is to pyrogenic-free surfaces. This
elicits a v igorous and rapid increase in the
synthesis of growth factors.
“Follow ing centrifugation [incubated
blood is “spun” at ultra-high speed to
separate its components], serum extraction
and filtration, the serum is portioned and
stored in a freezer at -18°C .
“Because of the incubation period, the
serum extracted is more GF-rich than if re-
injected into a patient immediately.
“At the patient’s next visit the end product is
then applied to the desired treatment area with
a micropen. We previously used to do lots of
small injections with a hypodermic needle but
the consensus now is that microneedling is a
far more effective, and less `traumatic’ method.
“This use of tiny needles to create
controlled micro-injuries to the skin has the
added advantage of regenerating collagen
and elastin in its own right.
“Patients can expect to start seeing
results after a couple of weeks from the first
treatment. Three or four treatments two
to four weeks apart is suggested treatment
protocol for the best results.”
As we now will see increasing numbers of
formulas released onto the market claiming

important to check that ingredients and
formulas are safe and that your supplier

HAIR’S THE THING
“ We cannot underestimate the need for GF in hair growth,” says Stephanie Sherlock.
“T hrough medical research, companies have been able to identify key
growth factors which facilitate age reversal of hair as well as for skin.
“There there are six growth factors in our Factor G6 hair formula. Its main
purpose is to stop the conversion of testosterone to DHT - which causes hair loss.
“And we have a new product for eyelashes and brows, to make them fuller,
longer, darker - and produce more of them.
“Noggin is a unique GF used in our formula. It not only inhibits testosterone
from converting to DHT but also encourages the absorption of melanin into the
hair follicle, allowing colour to return to grey hair. Noggin works with bFGF [basic
fibroblast growth factor) to do this too.”
Like Da Vinci GF for skin rejuvenation, Factor 6 is FDA approved.
Trials of Factor 6 by the Hair Free chain of hair removal clinics early last year
had such outstanding results that owner David Ginges decided to make the
regrowth treatments generally available to consumers at its clinics in NSW,
Victoria, ACT, South Australia and Tasmania last September.
“It might seem a contradiction in terms offering this treatment at a hair
removal clinic but, as we all know, many people have too much hair where
they don’t want it or little or none in areas they do,” says David. “So what better
venue to cater to this market?
“T he results we have seen from Factors G6 formula combined with
microneedling show we are experiencing a major breakthrough in the hair
“I t works by stimulating the skin and follicles of the scalp. We must, however, be
careful with patient selection as depending on the cause of the hair loss and the
extent and longevity of it. In some cases a client just won’t get results and so we
don’t want to set them uP for disappointment, nor waste precious time and money.”
Treatments are conducted at weekly or fortnightly intervals for up to 12 sessions
and, in some client trials, regrowth has been visible after less than a month.
A treatment takes only about 30 minutes. Clients arrive with their hair freshly
washed and dried. The topical formula is massaged into the scalp and then an
Eclipse Micropen is used to help the formula penetrate deeper into the skin.
The technology behind the hair regrowth system was pioneered by Professor
Hang-Cheol Shin of South Korea. He is a specialist in the field related to the
extraction of growth factors, having worked and researched them for over 25
years. His work is published in more than 60 scientific journals and he has over 30
patented processes to his credit.
