FOUNDED BY FRENCH biochemist
Rene Guinot in 1963, Guinot has a
strong base in deep cleansing and high
frequency galvanic facial treatments to
"hydrate, purify and normalise the skin".
It is a longtime favourite in Australia but
it's been a couple of years since we've heard
any real news from the brand here.
In early October it was officially
announced that Guinot was handing
over the distribution to Hamaya, sister
company to Babor Australia, run by
the same managing director, Anouk
Thebault. They actually took it on in July.
"We kept the news low-profile while
we worked on the existing inventory,
getting a feel for things," says Anouk.
Anouk says Hamaya had been on the
hunt for another brand to add it its stable
of cosmetics (they also distributes Dr.
med. Christine Schrammek, creator of
the Green Peel).
However, until now, nothing had
been the right fit to partner such high-
end luxury as Babor, the creators of anti-
ageing wonder cream, HSR Cream.
Anouk is quick to point out that
Babor and Guinot are sisters with no

doesn't fight with the Babor market,"

Anouk says new products and new

cosmetics brand to our shores.
She and her team are planning an
industry launch in February.
"We want salons feeling to feel even
more excited and upbeat about Guinot!"

SOUTH KOREA IS the country with
the world's highest per capita rate of
cosmetic plastic surgery, according to
data from the International Society of
Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).
In terms of total number of plastic
surgical procedures performed, the US
headed the list of Top 25 countries, with
China ranked third in the world for total
number of surgical procedures performed
and the highest in Asia by far, when
divided by their respective populations,
South Korea way outstrips them.
"If you want to feel bad about your
looks, spend some time in Seoul,"
reported Patricia Marx in The New
Yorker magazine, after spending a time
earlier this year in The Improvement
Quarter (Gangnam district, "the Beverly
Hills of Seoul"). An eerily high number

"Remarks from relatives, such as `You
would be a lot prettier if you just had
your jaw tapered' are considered no more
insulting than `You'd get a lot more for
your apartment if you redid the kitchen'.
"It has been estimated that between
one-fifth and one-third of women in Seoul
have gone under the knife.

Also called a double- eyelid surgery,
it involves the insertion of a crease in
the eyelid to make the eye look bigger.
It is by far the most common procedure
performed in Korea.
"One woman told me: `When you're
19, all the girls get plastic surgery. We
want to have surgeries while we are young
so we have our new faces for a long time'."
According to ISAPS, over 20 million
cosmetic procedures - with and without
the knife - were performed worldwide
in 2014. It shows Australia as ranking
22nd in the world, sandwiched between
Argentina and Thailand.
