Home' Spa and Clinic : Volume 65 May 2016 Contents Ilove it when I think I know a topic really well and then I discover
something I didn't know!
I really enjoyed learning a new definition between WELLNESS
and WELLBEING that we can all use.
To quote Susie Ellis: "Going for ward when you think about
wellness, think prevention and health. When you think about
wellbeing, think happiness. "This will assure that our industry does
not get swept into the happiness world where many other factors will
increasingly be debated. And it will give us a chance to claim the
prevention mantel that is so important for the future of our world."
As I was inter viewing a few business owners for their feedback
about how they are integrating wellness at more emotional and
spiritual levels, this comment by Karlene Coker of Rest and Relax
Skincare in Melbourne's Ashburton has really stayed with me.
"We have a lot of clients that have been with us for many years and
I really felt we needed something to customise our treatments to their
more emotional needs, to truly connect and support them at a deeper
level," says Karlene. "Rachael White's Archangel Aromatherapy system
has definitely allowed us to do that. We are having some profoundly
positive results. "Interestingly, when deciding if we needed the whole
range I said to Rachael that I thought we didn't need "Grief ". "I had to
ring back in a few days and take back my words. We had five clients in a
row suffer a bereavement and we definitely needed help to help them."
I was also very interested to note that The Future Laboratory are
also including in their 2016 Beauty Futures Forum sections on Digital
Disorders and PlaceMaking. It has been my obser vation of late that our
industry here is now enjoying the online swing-back to our bricks and
mortar businesses and professional ser vice and recommendations. It is
heartening to see global consumer trend experts in agreement.
Digital Disorders talks about the new set of skincare problems
(for us to fix!) that are being created by consumers' digital
habits. And Place Making talks about how the f lipside of digital
connectivity is anonymity and distance between brands and their
clients, telling us that a bricks and mortar sense of place has never
been more important than it is today.

We welcome the International
Health and Wellness Association
(IHWA). Its President, Samantha
Foster, explains their mission.
IHWA is internationally launched, inviting every
organisation and individual with a passion for health
and wellbeing to join.
With a mission to transform 10 million lives in 10 years,
it's going to take the spa, fitness, complementary health,
medicine and environmental industries working together
to do it.
In the spa and wellness networks there are so many
talented people, so many effective treatments and
interventions, so much knowledge and technology...
massive change is possible if everyone collaborates
and builds a community that encourages and inspires
people to make positive lifestyle change.
To this end, IHWA will facilitate programs that engage,
empower and educate society about wellness.
Members can propose and participate in projects,
such as establishing meditation in schools, teaching
organic gardening, or wellness for cancer which are just
a few of the projects currently being considered.
To make wellness accessible to all membership is
inclusive and available at Corporate, Professional and
Membership benefits include: network offers, job
boards and a knowledge-sharing forum, with workshops
