It was in 2010 that we realised there was

If doctors themselves are performing, say,
laser treatments, it is not the best use of their
skills and time and nor is it cost-effective.
Most now employ nurses or highly trained
and qualified therapists to do this work.
I consulted with plastic and cosmetic
surgeons and cosmetic physicians on a
regular basis to understand what their
requirements were of staff and steered
GrayClay's curriculum accordingly, and now
we add new courses as we go.
We started the first accredited course
with about 10 students. We now have around
150 students a year and it's growing. For
instance, in 2014 numbers grew 100 percent!
Students accepted to Gray Clay are
mostly post-qualification, so they have
underpinning knowledge of cosmetic dermal
science and have spent time in a clinic, which
makes the calibre of entry level higher.
They are screened through an inter view
process designed to select candidates who
aspire to a better position, are looking to
achieve and genuinely wanting to be "the
best of the best". Many candidates want one
day to have their own business.
GrayClay's curriculum covers the
key competencies required to work as a
qualified dermal therapist within a cosmetic
medical practice. The training is of the
highest quality, with two students in a
treatment room with one trainer.
It's not just practical expertise in using
a device that's required but a high-level
of theory knowledge -- the understanding
of the biological changes that occur when
using these devices.
By having truly work-ready therapists who
meet these criteria it provides a high level of
ser vice for clients and ROI for their employer.
Scope of work includes performing
dermal therapy procedures, assisting
medical personnel with cosmetic surgical
and non-surgical procedures, assisting with
practice and patient management, and
performing administration duties.
GrayClay's lecturers all come from
a professional medical aesthetics
background, either currently employed in,
or experienced within the advanced dermal
and cosmetic/medical profession.
They include advanced cosmetic
dermal therapists, cosmetic nurses and
business professionals, aestheticians,
specialists and representatives from
renowned supply companies.
Our lecturers understand exactly what
students require to succeed within the
dermal science, cosmetic or medical industry.
GrayClay prides itself on training
students to the highest work-ready standards,
but also helping them find work -- not only
upon graduation but in the ensuing years.
Clinics and doctors regularly call us for
recruits -- we provide a significant amount of
staff for them. A dermatologist in Brisbane
with whom we've been dealing for the past
five years sent us a testimonial that he would
only ever employ staff from GrayClay.
Our most exciting news this year is that
we're now offering our courses to overseas
students. It is the first time an east coast
paramedical academy/training school
has been open to international students,
to study on campus, with a visa. We have
students from all over the world; a lot from
The Australasian Academy of Cosmetic Dermal Science (AACDS) courses
