The majority of exhibitor s were skincare br ands; all equipped with beautifully
smelling tester s and samples, and enthusiastic staff happy to explain ingredients ,
ef fects, and points of difference. Two new initiatives by Beauty Expo Melbour ne
highlighted br ands and products on the show floor that were Proudly Austr alian
and Proudly Natur al, spur red by a growing consumer trend toward purchasing
products that contain natural ingredients, as well as a desire to suppor t local
brands with Australian-made products.
One of them is Rohr Remedy, an Australian made, natural skincare line made
from ‘Austr alian bush medicines’ including ingredients such as Kakadu Plum, Boab
Plant, and Gumbi Gumbi. The ‘skin super foods’ r ange includes eight essentials that
are high in antioxidants , vitamins and minerals , and consists of facial products , as
well as a natural deodor ant, lip balm and body wash.
Another cer tified organic and nasties-free Aussie brand impressed visitors
with their so-good-you-want-to-eat-it smelling tanning and body scrub products .
Ecococo offers coconut oil based ex foliating scrubs , body butter s, tanning oils,
and haircare, and with ingredients such as vanilla, guava, and lime, the sweet
fragrance alone made visitor s s top and try.
In the field of cosmeceuticals, we were happy to see an increasing number of
products that are safe to use post-treatment, with some specifically made to
accompany aesthetic procedures. Swiss injectable and skincare br and Teoxane
presented their range of premium skincare made with the same cross-linked
hyaluronic acid as used in their dermal fillers. Their skincare range is safe to apply
after cosmetic treatments such as laser s or Microneedling, and they also offer a
liquid foundation with medium to full cover age that stays ultr alight.
Dermaviduals is taking post-treatment makeup to the nex t level by offering
custom-made foundation. Salons are given a white foundation base that can
be mixed with drops of light or dar k shade foundations to create the per fect
skin tone match for each client. Not only is this a great selling point, but it also
“makes you feel like a chemist when mixing each per sonalised foundation,” s ays
Dermaviduals ambassador and skin ther apist Robyn McAlpine.
As the number of male clients is growing, products specifically made for men
are on the rise , too. But what used to be overly masculine black packaging and
an overload of menthol as an ingredient, has transformed into a much more
sophisticated offering. Case in point, Austrian brand Sa.Al&Co. , whose range of
men’s skincare packaged in stunning silver and black tubes is sure to attract the
modern man who isn’t afraid to spend more than two minutes in the bathroom.
Stockists also get a personalisation pen which can be used to write the client’s
name on the products to make them feel ex tra special.
A stellar line-up of exper ts presented educational sessions on the latest beauty
trends for professionals with topics like RF microneedling, treating common
skin conditions, men’s brows and microblading all available for visitor s to take
advantage of. Business sessions were also available, with per tinent topics like
Ins tagr am for businesses , solo salon business tips for success , and wor k/life
balance for small business owners covered over the course of the weekend.
“ What a fabulous weekend we’ve had at Beauty Expo Melbourne! I’m thrilled
with the experience that’s been delivered to our guests and our exhibitors.
There’s nothing like the buz z of a live event to make people feel motivated and
excited about their profession, and all the possibilities for what they can achieve
in the year ahead. And most of all we love being able to connect them with the
amazing brands at our show that have so much to share with the industry”, s aid
Cor y Watson, Event Director for Beauty Expo Melbourne.
One down, two to go. Hair Expo will take place in Melbourne on June 9 to 11,
with the biggest of them all, Beauty Expo Sydney following on September 8 and 9.
